THE POTENTIAL OF LAE IN MARITIME & ISLAND LOGISTICS

24/04/2026 • News

Cargo transportation to islands and offshore areas has long been a challenging problem due to high costs and heavy dependence on weather conditions. These bottlenecks have made island supply chains unstable and difficult to optimize.

The Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) opens a new direction by applying UAVs to island and maritime logistics. Goods can now be transported faster and more flexibly, overcoming geographical barriers while reducing reliance on traditional infrastructure.

The Cần Giờ – Vũng Tàu delivery route, jointly implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, Vietnam Post, GASCO and CT UAV, serves as a real-world proof of concept:

  • Breakthrough speed: The 12km sea route takes only 15 minutes, reducing travel time by 80–90% compared to road and water transport.
  • High efficiency: Automated operations with strong resistance to sea winds, capable of handling 3,000–5,000 orders per day.
  • Diverse applications: A complete end-to-end process from pickup – flight – delivery for essentials, medical supplies, and offshore provisioning.

GASCO is not only conducting trials but is actively building a comprehensive LAE logistics ecosystem, aiming to cover over 3,000km of Vietnam’s coastline and expand into international markets.
